A Leader of Men

Its time I wrote about Cricket.. it may not appeal to my blogging circle but its too big a part of me to ignore!

The Prince of Calcutta

In response to overwhelming critisicm that Sarav Ganguly is facing ,as an ardent fan of his ATTITUDE ,I am forced to speak up. Just look at him.. dosent he look like another average Indian.. but funny enough this man is anything but average.

"A good leader inspires others with confidence in him; a great leader inspires them with confidence in themselves."

Sarav Ganguly was God-sent to India, its almost like one of the million Indian cricket fans, prayed to God one day..

"God... Save Indian Cricket
Send us a leader of men ..
A man with arrogance..
A man who can look the white man in the face..
and show him the finger..."

Cricket is a wondeful sport, for those of who who havent experienced the excitement of playing a competitive cricket match, Its too hard for me to describe the feeling.

The prematch excitement ..
when you dont eat or sleep the previous night..
when you discuss bowling strategies and batting orders..
When you let your mind fantasize crucial match scenarios where you make a difference..
And the reality you face when the game is actually played..
The suprises .. the dissapointments..
The post-mortem that never ends till you win another match..

Dosent it sound all so familiar.. dont we go through this every new assignment life throws at us.
To lead a team of talented cricketers with more that a billion people waiting for you to take one wrong step is not an easy job.

Saurav Ganguly relishes that pressure. he almost seems to treat the team as his family. He gave India the much needed aggression which saw India through the uncertainties that the game has to offer. His arrogance is noted off the field as well, His family is infamous in Calcutta for their arrogance.. its needless to say that Saurav changed that with all the success he lead India too.

Have we forgotten the days when Ganguly brought so much glory to Indian cricket. His trademark reaction at Lords after Indias memorable victory.India has never seen a leader which so much passion.

His teamates affectionately refer to him a dhadha.. a leader, someone who has the courage to fight any opposition. His arrogance has rubbed of on the Indian team.. and always will stay as long as DHADHA! is our leader. He is the Kingpin of Indian cricket and a true leader for a country as passionate as ours.

India should stand by Sarav through this bad patch for all he has done for Indian cricket. Indias success depends so heavily on his leadership and the selectors should not forget that.

Long live the Prince.. you will always be in my list of idols!

You know, if Ganguly wasn't such a great player and leader he would have been dropped as captain and member of the Indian team long back. His bad spell has been continuing for a while now. Yes, no one will ever forget the prince of calcutta and the Lords victory and his attutide towards the game and his fellow players. However, the fact of the matter remains that he's just not performing (except the recent 100 in the test match Vs. Zim) and we've been losing quite badly in the recent past so the team needs a player who won't struggle to make 30-40 runs. Having said that Ganguly is Ganguly and maybe no one can ever replace him but all good things eventually come to an end.

I've played competitive cricket too in York.. was great fun.. I learnt how to bowl n all..but I must have forgotten by now!

I barely watch any cricket anymore!!! but then I barely watch anything anymore :) on TV that is. But I was reading all that giberish about Chappell and him on rediff.com..and was like man o man..someone needs a job!!why write about the same thing over and over again and again!!!! But like you said.....I love the confidence and arrogance he oozes....that one tournament (Natwest was it??) when he was on public display of emotion mode..sent quite a few shocking waves i remember within the prim english cricket community..but yes he has done much wonders to our cricket team....and put them back on track. He's done a commendable job as a captain.

hey ketch,
Ganguly was a good player, he just scored his first 100 after a gap of 3 years against Zimbabwe, a team riddled with political problems, Native players Vs White players.
Take for instance, a NBA coach, if the coach and player have a stand-off , who goes ? the player does. The coach is given a free reign. He is the coach for a reason, to fix problems. You cannot live on past laurels, agreed ganguly was a great player, but there is no guarantee that he stays great. I would expect you of all people, to call a spade a spade.

Penny Lane : Dont stop!!..

Lavi: He may not deserve to play in the team on the basis of his batting skills!.

Have you heard of Mike Procter. He played for England for several years just because he was a fantastic captain.

Neha : Why dint you come for coffee yest ??

Joe : ya the whole issue was so badly handled. Very unproffesional man.But asking Greg Chappel to understand Indian cricket is like asking a Harward student to sell cellphones to farmers. Its a whole different ball game.

Anonymous: Really ? How well does he suck ;)

Manoj :
Firstly,I never spoke about his game. I spoke only about his captaincy.

Second, the example of player vs. coach dosent apply the same way here. Im talking about captain vs coach and the captain plays a very significant role in a cricket match unlike a basketball game.

Third,My opinion wouldnt have change even if he scored a duck against Zim that game.

I know he's batting really badly now. But HEY .. WHO WILL CAPTAIN INDIA ? If India is to becomes a top side again; they will need a captain & I dont see another captain.
